Cattolica, the Queen
of the Adriatic coast, has been welcoming tourists onto its long,
wide beach from the 18th century, and represents a reference point
in our Riviera’s day, night and fashionable life. The renowned
“Della Regina” theatre, the outdoor arena, the music
shows in the once traditional market square, the marvellous boutiques
along viale Bovio, the town’s elegant “living room”,
the many pedestrians zones enlivened by dancing fountains, and the
romantic promenade which leads from our hotel to the centre, will
make your nights in Cattolica unforgettable.
The innumerable discos in the area will liven your long nights on
the Riviera.
And…just a few steps from town … castles,
Renaissance palaces, medieval villages and ancient legends!
Just to name some of them …
…Ancient, medieval Gradara castle, theatre of the love affair
between Paolo and Francesca, narrated in Dante’s poems. Charming
Urbino, cradle of the Renaissance, Raffaello’s native town,
with its large historical centre, which remained intact throughout
the years, and its fabulous ducal palace. San Leo castle, clinging
to the rock, an enchanting place, and Cagliostro’s mythical
prison. The panoramic medieval village of Verucchio, where you can
visit a rich museum hosting Villanovian finds. Montebello castle
and its panorama, rich in history and haunted by mysterious presences,
where we suggest a night visit … Let me tell you about my
own experience …
I visited the castle on a summer night some years
ago, together with some friends. Our interest laid in its extraordinary
architectural features, both in the castle’s Renaissance and
medieval parts, but we were unexpectedly attracted by the esoteric
phenomena taking place in those rooms. As sceptical and hardly suggestionable
as we were, certain that the whole story was just made of legends
and lure, we were astonished as we felt very strong and strange
sensations. In the room where every five years, on 21st June, you
can hear little Azzurrina’s desperate cry, I even felt I was
about to faint. The innumerable phenomena which happen there and
which I don’t want to tell you about in advance, have been
studied by scientists and declared inexplicable. But most fascinating
is the fact that such phenomena make us relive the lives of the
castle’s original inhabitants, through some very powerful
forces still haunting the castle nowadays.
